Well were moved into the 2008 year with many of the familiar sign and symptoms of winter. That cold Canadian air with those cold fronts sinking in from the artic which result in AIRMETS/ sometimes SIGMETS for turbulence, icing with low visibilities associated with that so often early morning fog. Yes, the weather brief is more important than ever before with weather changing constantly. Make sure you are not fooled into just looking at surface winds because you do not fly at the surface, but normally around 3000’ in training and between these local airports. There can be a tremendous difference between the surface and altitudes that you fly. (more)

News
Improvements to the runway have been made to the first 800’ of runway 32. Much fill was placed in the middle to fill in the wear and tear of a turf strip. The runway is much improved than ever before and if it ever rains here again in NC, the centerline will even be better yet. We have a rain deficit of over 20” now with extreme drought conditions prevailing throughout the entire state. (more)

The Cherokee has just come back from the paint shop in Salisbury, NC. Rowan Co. Airport. It is the first paint applied since 1976 and is well appreciated and deserved for being 32 years worn by UV rays and hit by millions of bugs. Also a complete new exhaust system has been installed in the Cherokee since out last newsletter. The patriotic red, white and blue scheme looks great and it will now fly a ‘tad’ faster due to less parasitic drag. New wing tips are going on our 152 N5330B and a new attitude indicators and DGs have been installed in some of the airplanes. All of the planes have preheaters installed and are being used daily to prevent that a thick oil from not flowing in these colder temperatures. The bladders preheat the oil to about 55-60 degrees F prior to starting. Oil does not flow until about 40 degrees F.
